Manvel Grigoryan released from arrest

The court took into account the findings of the medical board on the state of health of Manvel Grigoryan, a former MP, and set him free under recognizance not to leave.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that his advocates had insisted on his release from custody, citing his health complaints. However, the court repeatedly refused to satisfy their petitions. On January 14, Grigoryan was placed under intensive care. His defence claimed that the country's leadership and the judiciary were responsible for the deterioration of his health.

On January 15, at the initiative of the Armenian General Prosecutor’s Office (GPO), an extraordinary session was held by the Yerevan first-instance court, at which the issue of changing Grigoryan’s freedom restriction regime because of his health worsening was considered, Arevik Khachatryan, the GPO’s press secretary, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At the session, Gagik Arutyunyan, the chairman of the interdepartmental commission for forensic medical examination, said that Manvel Grigoryan, in his current state, cannot stay in custody, because there is no intensive care unit at the penal institution, Arsen Mkrtchyan, one of the advocates, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that the judge decided to release Grigoryan under recognizance not to leave.
