Lubyanka attack reminds of attacks in Caucasus

A man who attacked a FSB building in Moscow could have been taken alive, but he was killed, like it often happens during special operations in the Caucasus, notes Caucasus expert Alexei Malashenko. The attack occurred against the backdrop of a speech by President Vladimir Putin, and that recalled the events of 2014, when militants attacked Grozny on the day of the Russian President's address to the Federal Assembly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 19, a man attacked a reception of the Russian FSB in Bolshaya Lubyanka Street in the centre of Moscow. The FSB reported that the attacker was killed. At least six persons fell victim to the incident.

According to Alexei Malashenko, the attack was made possible because of the law enforcers' disorderliness.

Besides, the expert noticed that the attacker was killed, and that fact resembled the results of many special operations in the Caucasus.

Sergey Goncharov, the president of the International Association of Veterans of the "Alpha" Anti-Terrorist Division, doubts that an organized grouping stays behind the attack. According to him, so far, it can be judged that the shooter had hostility towards FSB agents. However, Sergey Goncharov believes the attacker could be instructed by someone from the outside.

Journalist Ruslan Kurbanov doubted that a steamed-up lone attacker would come up with a date to throw his hatred at the state. Journalist believes that attacks of lone-actor terrorists ceased to carry any religious motivation.
