Protesters in Georgia demand to investigate teenager's suicide

Several protest actions were held in Tbilisi after it became known about a teenager's suicide. The protesters assert that authorities should be held accountable for what has happened.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 17, a 15-year-old teen died in Georgia after trying to commit suicide five days earlier. He was suspected of having sneaked at night into the private "Green School", where he had studied for only a few months, and leaving inscriptions in the teachers' room and classrooms. The teen was summoned for questioning as a witness; however, his relatives later stated that he had been exposed to psychological pressure. A policewoman was accused of forcing him to testify.

After the teen's death, a protest action was held near the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in which about 300 people took part. During the action, there were several clashes with the police, but no one was detained.

Apart from the action held in front of the Georgian MIA, on December 18, similar actions were held in front of the Ilia State University.

At the action held outside the MIA, Anna Dolidze, a member of the Georgian Supreme Council of Justice, stated that citizens demand to conduct a prompt investigation into the teen's suicide, the "Rustavi-2" TV Company has reported.

"We'll monitor this case to the end, and we demand political responsibility from the minister. In a normal country, the minister would have written a resignation application long ago," Ms Dolidze, whose words were translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, has stated.
