96-year-old Georgian detained on South-Ossetian border

Border guards have detained a Georgian citizen, Gora Garibashvili, who crossed the demarcation line with South Ossetia, the authorities in the Georgian municipality of Kaspi have reported today.

Gora Garibashvili, a resident of the village of Kvemo Chala, was detained in the village of Tsunevi, which is under control of South Ossetia, said Stefane Mesropashvili, an employee of the above municipality. According to his story, the old man wanted to visit a cemetery in Tsunevi.

This man was already detained several times on the border, Channel One of Georgian TV has reported on its website today.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, South-Ossetian authorities handed three persons fined for violating the border over to Georgia. This year, the greatest resonance was caused by the detention for violating the border of the Tbilisi doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili. Unlike residents of the pre-border zone, who are released after paying the fine, a criminal case was opened against Gaprindashvili. On December 15, another action demanding to release the doctor was held on South-Ossetian border.
