Judges of Georgian SC appointed despite protests

Amid protests in front of the Georgian Parliament and in the sitting hall, the MOs have approved 14 candidates for the termless service as Judges of the Supreme Court (SC). The NGOs have stated that the SC approved by the Parliament is a threat to justice.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Thursday, December 12, a protest action was held near the parliament building; 20 people were detained.

Among the candidates for SC Judges are those involved in people's persecutions during the presidency of Mikhail Saakashvili, Ekaterina Gigauri, the head of the NGO "International Transparency-Georgia", has stated.

Giya Khukhashvili, a political analyst, has noted that the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party "has monopolized all the state institutions."

Prior to the sitting of the parliamentary legal committee, oppositionists also sprayed some liquid with the smell of faeces in the parliament building. According to Speaker, Archil Talakvadze, several people got poisoned, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported.

The action was intended to show that the decisions of the "Georgian Dream" smell badly, Nodar Rukhadze, the organizer of the action, has explained.
