Germany deports 34 asylum seekers to Georgia

The authorities of Saxony refused to provide political asylum to Georgian citizens, and all of them were deported to their homeland on November 26.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December, the European Union (EU) expressed its concern over the increase in the number of unsubstantiated asylum applications from Georgian citizens. Citizens of Georgia want to get asylum primarily in Germany and France.

On November 26, 41 citizens of Georgia were deported from German Saxony, 34 of them sought asylum in Germany, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

According to the migration service of Georgia, in 2018, 4566 people were deported to the country. More than half of the deportees came from Israel and Turkey. 531 people were deported from Germany, and 213 from France, the "InterPressNews" reports.

On October 21, the German authorities granted refugee status to a widow and children of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge, who was shot dead in Berlin on August 23. Two nephews of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili sought refuge in Sweden, but were deported to Georgia, a brother of the murdered man reported.
