US authorities explain detention of Akhmed Bilalov

Akhmed Bilalov, the former head of the "Resorts of Northern Caucasus" Company, has been detained in the United States for violating the immigration regime and is currently in custody pending removal proceedings, reports the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akhmed Bilalov headed the 'Resorts of Northern Caucasus' and was Vice-President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) until February 2013, when Vladimir Putin demanded to dismiss him from all the posts for the disruption of the construction schedule of Olympic facilities. Today, the US media informed about the detention of Akhmed Bilalov in Miami.

In April 2013, Akhmed Bilalov, a native of Dagestan, was suspected of abusing power as the head of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Resorts of Northern Caucasus". Furthermore, his brother, the head of the OJSC "Krasnaya Polyana", was also prosecuted.

Akhmed Bilalov was detained in the United States for violating the immigration regime, the RBC reports with reference to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to the ICE's statement, Akhmed Bilalov entered the United States in May 2016 not as an immigrant and did not leave in due time, although he was supposed to have left the country in accordance with the rules of staying in the United States. He was detained in his own house in Florida. At present, he stays in custody awaiting deportation.

A request from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) was sent to the US authorities, a source from the law enforcement bodies reported. "The MIA sent their colleagues from the United States a request for the detention of Russian citizen Akhmed Bilalov, including for his possible deportation to Russia, where he is charged with a crime," the source said.
