Chechnya loses land dispute with Kizlyar at Dagestani SC

On the website of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan, Rasul Kadiev, a Dagestani lawyer, has found a decision on a lawsuit on the lands of the Borozdinovskaya Forestry. The court ruled that the disputed lands belong to Dagestan, but Chechnya still claims to them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, Rasul Kadiev reported a litigation of the authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan with Kizlyar over the lands. The Dagestani and the Chechen authorities concealed the victory of the Kizlyar administration in the litigation and are trying to appeal against the ruling, Mr Kadiev has explained.

In January 2019, authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan agreed to demarcate the republics' border, but on June 17, Khizri Shikhsaidov, the Speaker of the Dagestani National Assembly, said that the process was suspended. In response, Magomed Daudov, the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, accused Shikhsaidov of disrupting the border demarcation and of the incident with the demolition of Chechen road signs near Kizlyar.

"The case has taken an unexpected turn. The Dagestani Forestry Committee did not support its lawsuit, explaining this by a change of circumstances," Kadiev said.

The spokesman of the Committee explained that the challenged decision was amended and the rights of the Forestry Committee of Dagestan were no longer violated.

According to the lawyer, "the Dagestani SC, by its decision, on the one hand, removed the city of Kizlyar out of the dispute; and on the other hand, established that the disputed land plots are a part of the territory of Dagestan."
