Law enforcers search home of father of Ingush activist Katsiev

During a search conducted in the house of Khasan Katsiev's father in the city of Karabulak, law enforcers examined a laptop and all the phones, the activist's sister has stated. According to the advocate, on October 17, a court in Stavropol will consider a complaint against the extension of Katsiev's arrest.

He was detained on April 23, 2019, within the case of clashes with law enforcers at a rally in Magas. On September 20, a court decided to extend his arrest until December 25.

According to estimates of the "Caucasian Knot", at least 96 activists were persecuted after the March mass protests in Ingushetia; and criminal cases has been opened against at least 29 of them.

A few days ago, Katsiev's father had an appointment with Djambulat Ozdoev, the Ingush Ombudsperson. Mr Ozdoev said that the father wanted to know on what grounds his son was kept in the SIZO (pre-trial prison). "He believes that his son's detention has to do with a long-standing conflict with the leadership of the Centre for Countering Extremism (CCE), which broke out when Khasan worked as an operative agent within the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Russian Federation for Ingushetia," the Ombudsperson has explained.

Earlier, Khasan Katsiev's father and advocate complained about law enforcers' attempts to force the activist to plead guilty.
