Former Makhachkala Mayor released on CER

In the evening on October 10, Musa Musaev, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, was released after almost two years of imprisonment in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) and a penal colony, his advocate reported. The Musa Musaev's early release will not affect the cases of other officials, Dagestani journalists believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on October 15, 2018, the court found Musa Musaev guilty of abuse of power and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. According to the verdict, Musa Musaev illegally allocated five plots of land and inflicted damage to the budget amounting to more than 48 million roubles. On October 9, in Dagestan, the court pronounced a decision on the conditional early relief (CER) for Musa Musaev.

In the evening on October 10, Musa Musaev was released from the penal colony, his advocate Sultan Kalaev reported.

The conditional early relief for Musa Musaev is not a precedent for other officials who are arrested, sentenced or under investigation, believe Dagestani journalists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Everything is individual, and it all depends on who is in what positions with (the law enforcement bodies)," believes Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Novoye Delo".
