Gadjiev's wife refuses testifying against husband

The investigator persuaded the wife of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the arrested journalist of the "Chernovik", to testify, but she refused to evidence against her husband. The woman is his public defender and cannot be a witness.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the "Chernovik", was arrested on June 18, 2019, after which the court extended his custody. On October 7, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan decided to reconsider the verdict of one of the district courts of Makhachkala, which had extended his custody. On October 8, Gadji Gadjiev, Abdulmumin brother went to the investigator and refused to testify. On October 9, Khabib Gadjiev, their father, testified in the presence of his advocate.

Dana Sakieva, Abdulmumin's wife, was interrogated on October 9, but refused to testify within the criminal case opened against her husband. The investigator convinced her and Murad Mallaev, her advocate, that it was necessary for her to testify, Dana told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We immediately outlined our position that, as a wife, I have no plans to testify," Dana Sakieva said. She also explained to the investigator that she has the status of Abdulmumin's public defender, and, therefore, cannot figure in his case as a witness.
