Journalist Yuzik returns to Moscow after detention in Iran

Today, Yulia Yuzik, the author of books on the conflict in Northern Caucasus, who had been detained in Iran, arrived in Moscow, the Russian Embassy has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Julia Yuzik was detained in Tehran on October 3. According to journalist Boris Voitsekhovskiy, she reported from her cell that she was suspected of working with Israeli intelligence agencies. On October 5, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that Yuzik was not detained as a suspect, but just to clear up a number of issues; and she would be released soon.

"As a result of joint efforts of the Russian MFA and the Russian Embassy in Tehran, the Iranian party made a decision to release the Russian citizen Yulia Yuzik. Early in the morning on October 10, by an "Aeroflot" flight, she flew from Iran to Moscow," says the official statement of the Russian Embassy in Iran posted on the Twitter today.

Yulia Yuzik, a native of the Rostov Region, is engaged in social community projects in Northern Caucasus, the "Nastoyascheye Vremya" (Present Time) informed on October 4. In 2016, Yulia Yuzik ran for the State Duma in a single-mandate constituency in Dagestan.
