Dagestani nominees of Aishat Magomedova Prize voice out main problems of Caucasian women

The participants of the awarding ceremony named after Doctor Aishat Magomedova, the founder of the Women's Charity Hospital in Makhachkala, named the major women's problems in Northern Caucasus: domestic violence, honour killings, female genital mutilation, lack of high-quality medical care and unemployment.

In July, 2019, the German Heinrich Böll Foundation announced the call for applications for the prize for North-Caucasian women, engaged in social activities. The prize was established in memory of Doctor Aishat Magomedova, whose projects were important for Dagestani women.

On September 28, Marina Seferova, the head of the social organization named "Octava" was announced the prize winner. She is implementing a project for preventing extremism among teenage girls.

Saida Sirazhutdinova, the President of the "Caucasus. World. Development" Centre for Studying Modernity Issues and Regional Problems, was nominated for the prize for her sociological researches of the problems women face in Northern Caucasus, namely: the general women's status, honour killings and mutilating surgeries.

Since 2013, Roza Muzaeva has been travelling over Chechen villages and rendering psychological help to notorious and uncontrollable girls from unsafe families.

Madina Magomadova, the chair of the "Chechen Mothers", who also got into the final, for 25 years has been searching for those who had disappeared in the Chechen Wars. According to her story, in 1995, she lost two brothers: the elder was killed, and the younger was kidnapped.
