Investigators report their version of conflict on bridge between Chechens and Dagestanis

In Dagestan, a criminal case has been instituted on the use of violence against a policeman during a conflict at the "Gerzelsky Bridge" checkpoint near the border with Chechnya. The incident did not affect the relationship between the two peoples, the Chechens from the border regions with Dagestan believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on August 17, WhatsApp reported about a fight between residents of Dagestan and Chechnya on the bridge at the "Gerzelsky Bridge" checkpoint, as a result of which a resident of the Chechen village of Khosi-Yurt died when falling from the bridge. According to Atabai Abasov, the head of the Dagestani village of Tsiyab-Tsolod, Dagestani law enforcers suggested that a driver of a car with Chechen state registration numbers was in the state of alcoholic intoxication. The head of the village stated that the conflict was not interethnic.

Some residents of Chechnya who visited Dagestan after Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov criticized Imam Shamil drew attention to the deterioration of attitude towards natives of Chechnya by some residents of the neighbouring republic.

According to investigators, on August 10, the driver of the Mercedes car grossly violated the road regulations and tried to hide from the police. He failed to cross the bridge, threw his car and fled the scene, while one of the passengers jumped from the bridge and died. Another passenger provoked a fight, during which the man hit a policeman.

The incident on the bridge is not related to the disputes surrounding the statements about Imam Shamil, believes Akhmed, a resident of a village in the Khasavyurt District.

The topic of interethnic problems between residents of Dagestan and Chechnya is being inflated by "people on the Internet," believes Sultan Shamkhalov from the Novolaksky District.
