Political analysts criticize Georgian President Zurabishvili for her passivity

The Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili, has stated that she is trying not to comment on high-profile criminal cases and protest actions, as she is trying to stick to neutrality. Political analysts have accused her of indifference.

According to Ms Zurabishvili, her status obliges her to be neutral, the "Sputnik-Georgia" writes.

Givi Targamadze, an MP from the oppositional "European Georgia" Party, believes that the president "has demonstrated complete disregard for the nation's problems."

He has noted that Salome Zurabishvili failed to comment on the installation of a fencing border from South Ossetia, because of which the houses of two families occurred on the other side of the border.

Residents of the village of Gugutiantkari of the Gori District of Georgia complained about the actions of the militaries, who set up the fencing on August 7 on the border with South Ossetia.

"When ordinary citizens and oppositional leaders tried to defend the territory of Georgia, the president was dealing with her whims," Mr Targamadze has stated.

According to Nika Chitadze, a political analyst, the absence of president's reaction to borderization indicates not neutrality, but indifference to the fate of the country.

Ms Zurabishvili has separately dwelled on the dispersal of the rally in Tbilisi in June: "A protest is an integral part of democracy, but an attack on state institutions is a grave crime."

In the opinion of Givi Targamadze, the Georgian president should have drawn the parties in confrontation to dialogue and demanded an investigation of the events that led to clashes.
