Dagestani MoJ: actions of Gadjiev's supporters banned because of terror act threat

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Dagestan refused to sanction 23 rallies and one demonstration which organizers of the rallies wanted to hold in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested correspondent of the newspaper "Chernovik"(Draft). Among the reasons for the refusal, the Dagestani MoJ mentioned the possibility of a terror act. The initiators of the actions will go to court to challenge the answers received from the Dagestani MoJ, reported advocate Arsen Magomedov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Dagestani MoJ rejected 39 notifications of actions in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, advocate Arsen Magomedov, one of the initiators of the support actions, reported on August 9.

On June 18, 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, was arrested under the case of financing terrorism. Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the weekly, is sure that Gadjiev was persecuted because of his articles on Islamic topics.

The Dagestani MoJ refused to sanction 23 rallies and one demonstration in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, numbering from 600 to 8,000 people in the period from August 19 to 24, reported advocate Arsen Magomedov. "At present, there are 63 refusals (received from the Dagestani MoJ). The total number of people who were not allowed to gather (for actions) in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev reaches 111,100 people," advocate Arsen Magomedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, the last 23 refusals of the Dagestani MoJ will be challenged in court.

Among the reasons for the refusal to sanction actions in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the Dagestani MoJ mentioned "the possibility of terror acts."
