Adjara music festival postponed due to clergymen's protest

160 residents of Adjara and local priests signed against holding the "Georgian Rave" electronic music festival in the ancient fortress. The organizers said they would find another venue for the festival to avoid conflict.

The authors of the collective appeal have stated that they considered it unacceptable to hold the event "similar to KaZantip" in the ancient Byzantine Peter's fortress. They promised to protect "the holy land from all kinds of immoral and anti-Orthodox actions."

These people "oppose progress in our country, while the club and festival tourism plays an important and decisive role for the Georgian economy" (translated by the "Caucasian Knot"), the organizers of the "Georgian Rave" have stated.

A written consent for holding the festival was received from the Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Monuments of Adjara. To avoid conflict, negotiations are underway to change the venue of the festival. At the same time, its date – August 10 – and the list of participants will not change, says the publication posted in the "Georgian Rave" group on the Facebook late in the evening on August 2.
