Judge in Robert Kocharyan's case accused of forgery

Judge David Grigoryan, who made a decision to release Robert Kocharyan from custody, faces up to four years of imprisonment under the article on forgery. David Grigoryan refused to testify, his advocate said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 16, investigators conducted a search at the office of David Grigoryan, who had returned from summer leave on that day. The Supreme Judicial Council agreed to institution of the criminal proceedings against Judge David Grigoryan and suspended his powers.

On May 18, Judge David Grigoryan pronounced the decision to release the second President of Armenia from arrest under the guarantees of the current and former presidents of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as suspend the case itself and transfer it to the Constitutional Court. This caused discontent of the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan. On June 25, the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia achieved through the Court of Appeal the Robert Kocharyan's return to custody and resumption of the case.

Today, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned from Marina Ogandjanyan, the press secretary of the Special Investigating Service, that David Grigoryan was charged under Part 1 of Article 314 (forgery in office) of the Armenian Criminal Code. Marina Ogandjanyan notes that the pre-trial restriction measure to the judge has not yet been chosen.

David Grigoryan refused to testify, since he associates the criminal proceedings against him with his decisions pronounced in another case, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Yervand Varosyan, an advocate of David Grigoryan. The advocate emphasizes that David Grigoryan pleads not guilty of the accusations brought against him and his position was recorded during the interrogation. "My client did not indicate what case he meant. However, I am sure that the criminal prosecution of the judge is related to the case against former president Robert Kocharyan," stated Yervand Varosyan.
