New data on Chechen "execution list" question investigations held in Russia

President Vladimir Putin and investigators know about the extrajudicial execution of 27 residents of Chechnya, but in Russia this case has no prospects, says Igor Kalyapin, a rights defender. Relatives of the persons from the "execution list" fled the country after exposed to pressure by law enforcers, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a blogger, has informed.

Earlier, the "Novaya Gazeta" reported that in January 2017, the victims of extrajudicial executions were strangled with a rope in the barrack of the police regiment of patrol-and-post service (PPS) named after Akhmat Kadyrov.

The execution of 27 people in Chechnya has not been proved, but these people have disappeared; and this information needs to be checked, said Igor Kalyapin, the chairman of the Committee against Torture (CaT).

Relatives of the people on the "execution" had to leave the country, abandoning their workplaces and housing, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a popular blogger, has added.

Chechen authorities have treated the story about strangulation of detainees in the building of the regiment named after Akhmat Kadyrov as a "bad Hollywood blockbuster."

Akhmed Dudaev, Ramzan Kadyrov's assistant, said that Chechen policemen more than once "proved their commitment to human rights protection."

Djambulat Umarov, the Chechen Minister for National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information, has also noted that Ramzan could not shoot from a pistol at the detainee, suspected of links with militants, the RBC reports.
