Court refuses to transfer Ingush activist under house arrest

The Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria dismissed a complaint filed against the extension of the arrest of activist Zubeir Khamkhoev, involved as a suspect in the case on the March rally in Magas.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zubeir Khamkhoev was detained on April 20. He is suspected of using violence against law enforcers during the rally held in Magas on March 27. The court extended his arrest until September 25. Zubeir Khamkhoev suffers from diseases of his cardiovascular system, and his health state has deteriorated in the SIZO (pre-trial prison), reports a brother of the activist.

According to advocate Mukhtar Mishaev, his client is provided with medical assistance at the SIZO whenever possible. At present, the activist feels relatively well.

The advocate believes the detention of his client is unfounded, and no convincing evidence of the Zubeir Khamkhoev's involvement in the crime is submitted.

Bayali Khamkhoev, a brother of Zubeir Khamkhoev, notes that "it is difficult to find a quieter person among relatives and friends than the brother."

"Yes, he attended the rally. Meanwhile, almost the whole republic participated in the protests. But he could not take part in the conflict, firstly, by his nature, and secondly, for health reasons," explained the activist's brother.
