Court accepts complaint about arrest of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev

Today, a complaint about the arrest of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), has entered the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan, but the date of its consideration has not yet been scheduled, the SC reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 18, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion department of the Dagestani newspaper "Draft", was arrested for two months in the case of financing terrorism. The persecution of the journalist provoked a public resonance. Participants of daily pickets in his support treat the case as fabricated, since Kemal Tambiev, one of the suspects, confessed that he had slandered the journalist under pressure.

The complaint can be considered "within several days," reports a source of the "Interfax-South".

According to investigators, Abdulmumin Gadjiev transferred money to the accounts of the foundations led by preacher Israil Akhmednabiev (Abu Umar Sasitlinsky). The investigators consider the preacher himself to be an organizer of terrorist financing through charitable foundations under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. In his interview to blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov, Abu Umar Sasitlinsky stated that he had nothing in common with Abdulmumin Gadjiev and other defendants in the criminal case and was not even familiar with them.
