On June 17-23, at least five people perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from June 17 to June 23, 2019, in the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, at least five people died, whereas no information was received about the wounded ones. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll included four alleged members of the armed underground – two in Chechnya and two in Dagestan, as well as one law enforcer in Chechnya.

Attacks on law enforcers

On June 22, at about 10:00 a.m., between the villages of Endirei and Karlanyurt in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, policemen tried to stop a VAZ 2109 car with two men inside. The demand to lay down arms and surrender was answered by opening fire. As a result of the subsequent shootout, both attackers were killed. There were no casualties or victims among law enforcers and civilians. The casualties were residents of Makhachkala. According to the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), the casualties were supporters of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in the Russian Federation by the court.

On June 23, a DPS (road-and-patrol service) unit was shelled in Lorsanov Street in the Leninsky District of Grozny, which was on duty not far from the residence of the head of Chechnya and the Grozny City complex. According to a source in power structures, there were two attackers, who killed a DPS inspector. One of the attackers was killed on the spot, the other – some time later, in a shootout.

Detentions

On June 21, during a special operation, 12 residents of Karachay-Cherkessia, who are supporters of the "At-Takfir wal-Hijra" extremist organization, banned in Russia, were detained. One of those suspected of involvement in extremist activity was detained in Moscow, all the rest – in the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia. During the inspection of their households, firearms and cold arms, ammunition, flash memory sticks, CDs with video clips of a terrorist nature, as well as religious literature of extremist content were found and seized.
