Opponent of LGBT "March of Dignity" detained in Tbilisi

Guram Palavandishvili, an activist, who participated in creating a legion against holding the "March of Dignity" in Tbilisi, was arrested today for resisting the police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 16, a businessman, Levan Vasadze, declared the creation of a legion to oppose the gay parade. On June 17, it was decided to disband the legion, after the MIA declared an inquiry of the "creation of an illegal formation."

Today, policemen tried to bring the above Palavandishvili for questioning about the creation of the illegal formation, but he resisted and was detained, the Georgian MIA has reported.

"Guram Palavandishvili resisted to and insulted policemen," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the MIA's press service.

Let us remind you that earlier, MIA officials stated that they would not be able to protect marchers from possible provocations and attacks, if the march was held in central Tbilisi. On June 18, the organization "Tbilisi Pride" announced that the "March of Dignity" will take place, despite the law enforcers' statement.
