Convict's defence claims falsification of case on murder of schoolchildren in Tbilisi

An advocate and family members of a person sentenced for giving false testimony in the case on the murder of two schoolchildren in Tbilisi appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia. They request to bring to criminal responsibility investigators and prosecutors who considered the resonant case. In case if their appeal is ignored, the defence threatens to organize protest actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 22, the court sentenced the minor to two years and three months of imprisonment for false testimony about a fight that ended with the deaths of two Tbilisi schoolchildren. The defence of the suspect claimed he was not guilty.

The appeal to the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia with the demand to bring to criminal responsibility the investigators, prosecutors, and those persons who were involved in the investigation into the resonant case on the murder of schoolchildren in Tbilisi was filed on June 17. "We demand to conduct an urgent examination on the possible falsification of the documents of the case and call for liability on false testimony at the court [...]", said Fridon Sikhuashvili, the advocate of the minor sentenced in the case, as quoted by the "Rustavi-2" TV Company (hereinafter translated from Georgian into Russian by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent).

According to Fridon Sikhuashvili, during the trial, it was found out "how the materials of the case had been falsified by prosecutors and investigators, as well as how the evidence had been destroyed and the crime itself had been hidden". "If at least those guilty are not detained and brought to responsibility within ten days, we will start protest actions. An innocent person is being kept at a detention centre, while the police officers who have committed a serious crime against the minor are promoted," the advocate states.
