Azerbaijan claims disruption of Karabakh negotiations after death of soldier

The death of an Azerbaijani soldier in the Karabakh conflict zone undermines the process of negotiations to resolve the situation in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for Azerbaijan reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that an Azerbaijani soldier was killed as a result of a shot from the enemy side on the contact line of troops. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Azerbaijan accused Armenia of provocation.

"The bloody act was purposefully committed by supporters of the war (...) on the eve of the next meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs," the Azerbaijan MFA announced and placed on Armenia the responsibility for the incident.

In turn, on June 9, Arthur Ovannisyan, the press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defence, wrote on his Facebook page that Armenian Defence Minister David Tonoyan rewarded the soldiers and officers who had carried out a "reprisal raid" in the Karabakh conflict zone after the death of an Armenian soldier on June 1.
