Residents of Northern Caucasus ambiguously react to USE transfer because of Uraza-Bayram

The "Rosobrnadzor" (the Russian Federal Service for Supervising Education and Sciences) has allowed Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia to transfer those unified state exams (USE) of high school graduates, which coincide with the celebration of Uraza-Bayram. However, critics of this decision point out that passing the exams on reserve dates will reduce graduates' chances to enter the budget-funded departments of universities and eliminates a possibility of re-passing the required exams.

Earlier, Chechnya has announced June 4-6, and Dagestan – June 5-7, to be days-off because of the Uraza-Bayram holiday.

In Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan, the USE, falling on the days of Uraza-Bayram, were moved to reserve dates in the second half of June, the Dagestani Ministry of Education has announced with reference to the "Rosobrnadzor".

The parents and graduates in Chechnya, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, as a whole welcomed the USE transfer. "Everyone will be getting ready for the holiday; and children will not have time to focus on their exams, especially such serious ones as physics and foreign languages," said Roza, a resident of Grozny.

"The USE is an ordeal in itself; and on a holiday, who will think about the exam?.. They were right to fix new dates," said Ruslan, a local resident.

This year, the believing graduates had to pass their exams, while observing the fasting, Zarema, a graduate of one of Grozny schools, has noted.
