Ingush Ombudsperson reports on Barakhoev custody conditions in SIZO

After his transfer from the Nalchik SIZO (pre-trial prison) to the Vladikavkaz one, Akhmed Barakhoev, an Ingush activist, has no complaints about his custody conditions, the Ingush Ombudsperson has stated. Instagram users point that the elder looks unhealthy.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 30, 2019, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) upheld the decision to arrest Akhmed Barakhoev until June 11.

Three leaders of protests in Ingushetia – Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov and Barakh Chemurziev – were arrested on charges of calls to mass riot and using violence against law enforcers. Under arrest, Barakhoev held a hunger strike on April 4-13. This protest was unique to Ingushetia because the elder sought to respect not only his rights, but the rights of other people.

The website of the Ingush Ombudsperson has stated today that Akhmed Barakhoev has no complaints about his custody conditions in the Vladikavkaz SIZO.

It is noted that Elbrus Valiev, the Ombudsperson for North Ossetia, visited Barakhoev at the request of his Ingush colleague Djambulat Ozdoev.

Meanwhile, many Instagram users have noted that Barakhoev had "lost a lot of weight" during his stay in custody, and expressed support for him.
