Court rejects most of Cherkesov's complaints about his placement into dungeon

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a court refused to recognize that placing Aslan Cherkesov, a native of Kabardino-Balkaria, into the dungeon (a punishment cell, also known as ShIZO) for many times in a row was a violation, the inmate's advocate has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Eniseisk District Court began considering Aslan Cherkesov's complaint about his long-term placement into the ShIZO. He complained about his custody conditions to supervising authorities, but there was no reaction, human rights defenders had stated earlier. Cherkesov's stay in the ShIZO is regularly prolonged; and on April 24, he was awarded 13 days more therein, said Maria Bogdanova, his advocate.

The above District Court recognized as violations only a refusal to Cherkesov to make a phone call, and the fact that he was not allowed to take extra clothes with him into the ShIZO, Ms Bogdanova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "The main point – the continuous keeping Cherkesov in the ShIZO – was rejected. The court refused to find it illegal, despite the fact that the practice is different throughout Russia: the continuous keeping an inmate in the ShIZO is prohibited," she said.
