Farmer's conflict with Chechen natives worries Cossacks in Volgograd Region

Participants of the Cossack gathering and a meeting of the Council of Atamans in the Kalachyovsky District of the Volgograd Region have drawn attention of the authorities to the cruel beating of the farmer Evgeny Sychov, a Cossack. His son told about his father's years-long conflict with the natives of Chechnya, but the police believe that it was just a domestic incident.

"In the conflict, they broke the Cossack's heads and fractured his ribs," Alexander Falaleev, the Chairman of the Council of Atamans, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Sychov was in conflict with his neighbours who were grazing cows on his land, said Leonid Boiko, a Cossack. "He is feeding cattle on his land, while Chechens have almost no land. He used to quarrel with them, because they drove their cattle into his land," he said.

The Sychov's conflict with local Chechens has lasted for 13 years, since his family began farming at the Bolshenabatovsky Farm, the victim's son has noted. According to his story, his father was attacked on April 26, when he was rested with a friend in the forest.

“Sychov was severely beaten up for a long time. The attackers actually left him to die; he lay their without assistance for several hours; now he is in intensive care unit," said Yuri Bengardt, an advocate.

According to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the conflict of Sychov and his two neighbours has arisen on the everyday basis. "All the three were drinking alcohol. The conflict, according to preliminary information, arose from the fact that the cows from one side had crossed the defined border," the police assert.
