Police disperse protest action at Baku school

Policemen have used force against the activists, who gathered on April 13 for an action, demanding to punish those responsible for the suicide of an eighth-grader schoolgirl from a Baku school.

Several activists, school pupils and parents laid flowers and lit candles on the gates of school No. 162 in Baku, where a 14-year-old girl died on April 4. When the protesters tried to make speeches, the police ordered them to disperse and then began squeezing them away from the school.

Activists shouted slogans demanding to respect children's rights, change the atmosphere in schools, and show tolerance for children. Policemen pursued activists for about 200 meters, until they were far from the school, the "Turan" News Agency reports.

A day earlier, a protest action was held in front of the school with a demand to punish those guilty of the girl's suicide. Dozens of parents took part in the action; they expressed dissatisfaction with the school management, the agency has indicated.

The eighth grade pupil of school No. 162 of Baku died on April 6 in the city clinical centre, where she was taken after she attempted suicide in the territory of the school on April 4. As her parents found out, the girl became the object of aggressive peer attacks, while school teachers knew about it, but did nothing to counteract it.
