Ingush activist holds picket in Nalchik

Ismail Nalgiev, an activist, has come out to a solo picket at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) and the temporary detention centre (known as IVS) in Nalchik in support of the detainees after protests in Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 12 activists detained in Ingushetia after rallies on March 26-27 were transported to Nalchik. Three of them, the protest leaders, were arrested; on April 4, one of them, the elder Akhmed Barakhoev, went on a hunger strike. A criminal case on the use of violence against law enforcers was initiated against nine activists.

Ismail Nalgiev, the coordinator of the NGO "Choice of Ingushetia", was standing in a picket with posters reading: "Barakhoev Akhmed, Barakh Chemurziev, Bagaudin Khautiev, who's next?", "We ask to respect our rights, and we are oppressed for this" and "Evkurov, resign!"

On March 3, Nalgiev himself was fined by the court for participating in the rally.

On March 26, a rally in Magas against the law on referendum, which, according to the opposition, was amended in connection with the border agreement with Chechnya, turned into a rally demanding the resignation of the head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Evkurov. On the following day, there were clashes of protesters with law enforcers. According to investigators, ten policemen were injured.
