Investigators suspend case of dispersion of "Electric Yerevan" protest

The Special Investigating Service (SIS) of Armenia failed to find the law enforcers, who could be charged with abuse of powers or unjustified use of force during the dispersal of actions against the increase in electricity tariffs in 2015.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2015, the decision to raise electricity tariffs triggered mass protests in Armenia, during which the police resorted to violent methods.

The SIS has suspended the criminal case on the use of violent methods during the dispersal of the action "Electric Yerevan" in June 2015.

All the investigative and procedural actions have been carried out; however, as a result thereof, no persons to be prosecuted within the case were identified, a SIS official told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on March 10.

"Therefore, the proceedings under this case are currently suspended. However, this does not mean that the investigator himself cannot, personally or through the investigating authorities, take action to identify these persons," said the source.
