Activists demand to allow import of right-hand drive cars to Armenia

At a protest rally, Zorik Igityan, a member of the movement "Right-Hand Drive", has claimed the solution of the problem is delayed due to the fact that the parliament failed to include in its agenda a bill approved by the Armenian government.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in March 2018, the Armenian parliament approved a ban on the import of right-hand drive cars. At first, it was proposed to prohibit not only the importation of right-hand drive vehicles, but also the exploitation of already imported ones. That provoked a protest of car owners. About 1000 drivers held a protest rally in Yerevan.

The "Sputnik-Armenia" reports that more than 30 members of the initiative "Right-Hand Drive" gathered for a rally in front of the government building. They demanded to solve the problem with importing cars to Armenia and to meet the leaders of the country.

According to Zorik Igityan, an advisor to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has promised that the issue will be included in the agenda of the today's parliament session, but that has not happened.

Earlier, Zorik Igityan has stated that at border checkpoints, about 600 right-hand drive vehicles expect to be brought to Armenia, and they are being damaged and there have been even cases of thefts of spare parts, the "ArmInfo" reports.

Yerevan drivers expressed different opinions regarding the safety of right-hand drive cars. Many of them pointed to the problem of limited visibility on the road when overtaking other cars. Other owners of right-hand drive cars believe that for an experienced driver the location of the steering wheel does not matter.
