Final exams for 11-graders cancelled in Georgia

In 2019, pupils of Form Eleven will have no final examinations; however, finals for 12-graders are still preserved in 2019. Fully, final exams in Georgian schools will be cancelled since 2020.

This was announced by Sofo Gorgodze, the head of the National Examinations Centre on January 28, at the presentation of the new model of the education system.

The final exams in Georgia were held in two stages – in the 11th and 12th grades. At the end of the school year, 11-graders passed their exams in those subjects that they completed studying – in physics, chemistry, biology and geography. The exams in the other four subjects – mathematics, Georgian language and literature, foreign language and history – were passed by 12-graders.

Some of 12-graders are unhappy that their finals have not been cancelled and intend holding a protest action on February 3 at the Ministry of Education, demanding to cancel this year's final exams not only 11- but also for 12-graders.

"All the pupils who can't accept this injustice are invited to come on Sunday, at 3 p.m. to the Ministry of Education and peacefully demand to protect our rights! Let them abolish the exams for 12-graders, just like for 11-graders ... Let them give us a chance to calmly take our Unified National Exams," the "Sputnik-Georgia" quotes the preview of the action posted on the Facebook.
