On January 21-27, 2019, five persons fell victim to armed conflict

During the week of January 21-27, 2019, at least five persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: four perished and one was wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The casualties were alleged members of the armed underground; they all were killed in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Attacks on law enforcers

On January 24, at around 6:00 p.m., at the corner of Idarov and Suvorov Streets in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, four men attacked a team of DPS (road-and-patrol service) inspectors and stabbed one of them. The rest of the policemen opened fire and killed three attackers on the spot; the fourth one was wounded and hospitalized; later he died in hospital. One of the policemen was also hospitalized in grave condition. Investigators managed to identify the attackers – all were residents of Ingushetia. According to unofficial data, the attackers could be Mansur Bokov and three Esmurzievs – Adam Isaevich, Amir Yusupovich and Albert Akhmedovich. Five knives were found on the attackers, and masks – in the bag of one of them.

Detentions

On January 21, the Russia's FSB reported the arrest of three members of a secret unit operating in the Krasnodar Territory, Adygea and Dagestan. Under the guise of charitable activities, the members of the grouping raised money and transferred it for the needs of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. The detainees gave confessions, and during searches, materials confirming their criminal activities were found on them, the FSB has reported.
