Grigoryan's opponents apologize to his advocate for pouring paint on the car

Activists have apologized to Arsen Mkrtchyan, an advocate of General Manvel Grigoryan, a former MP, for pouring paint on the advocate's car and preventing him from driving. However, they stated that the actions demanding to arrest of his client would be continued.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 11, protesters stated that they were outraged by the interview of Arsen Mkrtchyan, a Manvel Grigoryan's advocate, in which he called them "rogues", and demanded to deprive him of his lawyer's license. The latter explained that he had done no insulting statements concerning activists, but complained that they had poured paint over his car at the courthouse and did not allow him to drive.

Manvel Grigoryan, a former member of the Armenian parliament, the head of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, was detained in June 2018 on suspicion of illegal arms circulation. On December 21, the court changed the pre-trial restriction measure for him from arrest to release on bail. Residents of Echmiadzin, dissatisfied with the release of Manvel Grigoryan, held protest actions. On December 24, 2018, to meet the protesters' demands, the Prosecutor's Office challenged the court decision.

On January 18, the Court of Appeal (CoA) concluded the hearing at which the prosecutor's protest against the first-instance court judgement to release Grigoryan was considered. The CoA's decision will be announced on January 22, Arsen Mkrtchyan, the General's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The appeal hearing was held against the background of protest action held by opponents of Manvel Grigoryan's liberation. Activists met Arsen Mkrtchyan and asked to forgive them for blocking and pouring paint over his car, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The activists said that they had nothing personally against Mkrtchyan; their behaviour was caused by the then emotions. They admitted that their claims to the advocate were groundless.
