On January 7-13, 2019, six persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of January 7-13, 2019, six persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, four were killed and other two were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes three suspected members of the armed underground in Dagestan and a policeman in Ingushetia.

Attacks on law enforcers in Dagestan and Ingushetia

On January 11, in Dagestan, three persons travelling in a car attacked a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS), reported the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC). The police began to pursue the car, and when offered to lay down arms and surrender, the suspects opened fire at the law enforcers, the NAC reports. According to the NAC, as a result of a shootout, three attackers were killed and no civilians or law enforcers were injured. The killed suspects were identified as men involved in recruiting young people into the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, and assisting militants in Kaspiysk killed during a counterterrorist operation (CTO) in 2017, the NAC reports. Law enforcers also detained an accomplice of the militants, a native of Kaspiysk, who had earlier criminal records for helping members of the armed underground and attempting on the lives of police officers.

On January 12, in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, unidentified persons shelled a car of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the head of the Ingush Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE or "E" Centre), reported the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Ibragim Eldjarkiev himself was not injured, but three law enforcers travelling in his car were wounded. On the other day, one of them died in the hospital, medical officers reported.
