Two persons suffer from hurricane in Batumi

Part of the roof of a multi-storey building collapsed and fell to the ground during a strong wind in Batumi; two passers-by were injured and taken to hospital.

The incident occurred in the evening on January 4 in Chavchavadze Street. A roof fragment of a nine-storey building fell into the street, where there were people.

Wooden beams and metal sheets injured two men; one of them was taken to the university hospital; the other – to the Batumi referral hospital, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.

According to the Emergency Management Service, the patients' lives are out of danger, the Georgian TV Channel One reports.

The police are investigating the incident under Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violation of safety rules during mining, construction or other works). The perpetrator faces a fine, or up to two years of correctional labour, or a restriction of liberty, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
