Georgia CoA refuses to cancel the outcomes of presidential election

The lawsuit lodged by the opposition with a demand to annul the totals of the second round of presidential election in Georgia was dismissed by the Court of Appeal (CoA). The opposition intends to file a complaint on CoA's decision to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by the outcomes of the second round of the presidential election in Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, who was supported by the "Georgian Dream" Party, won 59.52% of the votes, while her opponent, Grigol Vashadze from the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, won 40.48% of the votes. Vashadze and the Alliance "Strength in Unity", which had nominated him, refused to recognize Zurabishvili's victory and appealed against the voting totals in court.

On December 18, the Georgian CoA refused to annul the final protocol of the Central Election Commission (CEC), approving the voting outcomes, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The opposition demanded to annul the voting outcomes because of voters' bribery, pressure on them and other mass violations.

According to Giorgi Zhamutashvili, a lawyer of the "Strength in Unity", members of the Alliance intend to appeal against the CoA's refusal at the ECtHR, the "InterPressNews" reports.
