Court toughens punishment for a native of Chechnya for recruitment to IS*

The Moscow District Military Court has sentenced to four years of imprisonment Akhmed Elsanukaev, sentenced in Grozny for posting on a social network the information about the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 7, in Grozny, a court sentenced Akhmed Elsanukaev to three years of imprisonment on the charge of preparation to participate in the combat actions in Syria. The defendant pleaded fully guilty.

It has been found that Akhmed Elsanukaev was responsible for ideological and recruiting treatment of residents of Russia and posted calls for terrorist activities in the social network "VKontakte", the TASS reports.

According to investigators, Akhmed Elsanukaev lived in Karelia, from where he left in the spring of 2015 to an IS training camp on the border of Turkey and Syria. There, he underwent training and created a group in "VKontakte", through which he recruited Russian residents into the ranks of militants. A year later, he returned to Russia and was hiding in Chechnya, where he was detained, reports the "Moskovsky Komsomolets".
