Families of killed soldiers and officers demand compensation from Azerbaijani authorities

At a rally in Baku, about 80 family members of soldiers and officers killed in the Karabakh conflict have demanded compensation. The authorities declare the money has been paid, but there are no payment documents, the protesters state.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, participants of a march in Baku expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that officials refused to compensate them for the deaths of their close relatives in the combat actions.

In spring, President Ilham Aliev signed a resolution on payment of compensation in the amount of about 6450 US dollars to the families of the persons killed or disappeared during the combat actions in 1991-1997.

The protest rally held on November 27 has become already the seventh action, said Togrul Godjaev, one of its participants. According to him, so far, there are no results.

Compensations have been paid to successors of 447 killed soldiers and officers, and in total, payments are due to 9500 people, reports the press service for the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

In 1991-1994, there was a war between Nagorno-Karabakh which proclaimed its independence and Azerbaijan. As a result, Karabakh established control over its territory and several adjacent regions of Azerbaijan. The confrontation still continues.
