Azerbaijani residents suspected of financing Syrian militants

The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan reported on the suppression of the terrorist financing channel in Syria, through which 500,000 US dollars had been transferred.

According to the Azerbaijani SSS, Ilgar Agaev, Sakhil Ibragimov, Namig Mamedov, and others contacted close participants of the armed conflict in Syria. The suspects had been engaged in transferring money to militants since October 2017.

The criminal case was instituted under the articles on financing terrorism, involvement in a criminal grouping and participation in armed conflicts outside Azerbaijan, the "Trend" reports today with reference to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan.

The court pronounced the decision to arrest the suspects, reported the Azerbaijani SSS as quoted by the "Interfax".

The exact number of suspects has not been specified in the report. Till present, the "Caucasian Knot" has not got any comments from the arrested persons or their representatives.
