Azerbaijan: colony bosses fail to hand support letters over to Seymour Khazi

For a week already, the journalist Seymour Khazi, convicted in Azerbaijan, cannot receive letters collected by activists in his support, his wife has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 29, 2015, Seymour Khazi, an observer of the "Azadlyg" (Freedom) newspaper, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of beating a certain Magerram Gasanov up in 2014.

In this October, Seymour's colleagues held a "Letter to Seymour" campaign in social networks in his support, Nigyar Khazi, his wife has reported. "In total, 133 letters were sent to Seymour within the campaign – from his friends and colleagues, and from activists and members of international human rights organizations. A week ago we printed the letters out and carried to Seymour. They took away our letters and promised to give them to him. However, a week has passed, but he never received them. They could have read them in a week, if they need it. Moreover, since the letters contain only words of support and solidarity. They contain no illegal content," Ms Khazi told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In her opinion, they do it deliberately, in order not to let Seymour feel the public support that could give him additional strength and optimism.
