In Makhachkala, police disperse a picket against construction in Ak-Gel Park

Journalist Svetlana Anokhina, an activist of the movement "City is Ours", tried to hold a picket against the construction of a temple in the territory of Ak-Gel Park. However, policemen did not let her unfold a poster and tried to detain her. The situation was resolved after journalists from local media arrived at the place.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 29, 2017, the Leninsky District Court fully granted the requests voiced by the activists of the movement "City is Ours", who demanded to ban the construction of the temple in the park. However, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan cancelled the decision of the first instance court and permitted the construction of the temple.

"No one heard us with our demand not to build a temple in the park. Today, on June 7, I ... tried to meet religious leaders and explain to them what we want: to move the temple at least a hundred meters away. We have nothing against the temple, we want to preserve the park and the temple," said Svetlana Anokhina.

The activist explained that for the case if no conversation took place, she brought a poster and a leaflet to hold a solo picket. However, at the place where the construction of the temple was planned, a prayer service took place and the police did not let the activist through.

According to Svetlana Anokhina, the policemen behaved very rudely to her and repeatedly attempted to force her into their service car. One of the policemen managed to snatch a leaflet from her hands, crumple it up, and throw it on the ground.

Svetlana Anokhina has explained that in the nearest future, she intends to challenge the actions of the policemen against her.
