Defence of Gasanguseinov family claims falsification in killed shepherds' case

Results of the forensic examination, which showed the presence of genetic traces of shepherd brothers killed in the Dagestani village of Goor-Khindakh on submachine guns, were formulated with gross procedural violations and were kept in secret from defence for a long time, reported advocates of the Gasanguseinov family.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the law enforcement bodies declared Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov, killed on August 23, 2016, to be militants. However, fellow villagers categorically rejected the version of the brothers' involvement in the armed underground

At a press conference held today in Makhachkala, the relatives of the killed Gasanguseinov brothers and their advocates have stated that the case on the brothers' murder is being falsified to ensure that the persons responsible for their killing can escape punishment.

"I met the republic's Prosecutor and when I submitted to him the information refuting the arguments about the law enforcers' non-involvement in the murder of the Gasanguseinov brothers, the Prosecutor suddenly said there was a medical and biological expert opinion in the case stating that there were traces found on the submachine guns found near the killed Gasanguseinov brothers, corresponding to the genetic profiles of killed Gasangusein and Nabi," said advocate Djambulat Gasanov.

He has noted that earlier, the results of the above mentioned examination had not been presented to advocates and relatives of the killed brothers. Djambulat Gasanov believes that the results of the examination are falsified and the genetic traces of the killed brothers could appear on the submachine guns only after they had been killed.

"If the killed brothers used those weapons, then they should have left their fingerprints on them. However, there are no fingerprints, and they could not appear," Djambulat Gasanov said.

The advocates suggested that the forensic examination could be conducted "backdated" and noted that it was illegal to keep the results of the examination for a long time in secret from defence.
