At trial, Dagestani policemen report provocations against journalists

At trial, Karim Kasumov, a resident of Dagestan, rejected any intent to make obstacles for the activities of journalists during a rally in Makhachkala. The journalists and policemen who attended the rally reported to the court about the provocations at the rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in early April, the case against a resident of the Tlyarata District, accused of obstructing the legal professional activities of a journalist after attacking a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was brought to court. The defence called the case a unique fact for Dagestan.

According to investigators, on June 12, 2017, a man demanded from a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent to stop filming a rally of Navalny's supporters in Makhachkala and damaged the journalist's video camera by using force

On May 18, the Soviet Makhachkala District Court began consideration of the criminal case. The defendant admitted his guilt in part, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Karim Kasumov himself told the court that he pleaded not guilty, but his advocate explained that the defendant admitted his guilt in part. According to the advocate, Karim Kasumov admitted that he had broken the video camera, but he did not know that the camera belonged to a journalist.

At the court hearing, witnesses were also questioned, including Murad Muradov, a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot". He told the court that at the rally held on June 12, 2017 in Makhachkala, four young people, including the defendant, committed provocations and attacked journalists.
