Abuse in Chechnya

A group of officers of unidentified law enforcement / security agencies cruelly beat two local women and abducted an elderly man in Chechnya's Urus-Martan district in the southwest of the republic, a local resident told Caucasian Knot's correspondent. The incident occurred in Goity.

"Last night, officers of unknown law enforcement or security agencies broke into the house of the local residents Anzorovs," says Supian, 43, resident in the district. "It turned out that the people were searching for the son of the aged mistress of the house, but the latter managed to hide out. Then they began to beat the young man's mother and sister cruelly, demanding that they should tell them were he could be hiding. A neighbour of the Anzorovs, an elderly man, tried to interfere and stop the beating of the innocent women, but they then pounced on him, forced him into their car, and brought him away without indicating the destination."

According to Supian, relatives of the Anzorovs and the abducted man are trying to find out what exact agency the attackers belong to, although they are unwilling to make this matter public for fear of possible negative consequences.

A group of armed people in camouflage uniforms abducted an elderly woman in the Leninskii district of the capital of Chechnya, a source with republican law enforcement agencies told Caucasian Knot.

"Last night, in Grozny's Leninskii district, unidentified people in camouflage uniforms driving vehicles with darkened windows captured and brought away an elderly local resident, Rosa Jaubatyrov. Operations are under way currently aiming to identify and detain the abductors. It is so far unclear what served as the ground to abduct an elderly woman on a pension as Ms Jaubatyrov is," the source with Chechnya's Internal Affairs Ministry said.
