Police General accused of exceeding his power in dispersal of Nikol Pashinyan's supporters

Levon Yeranosyan, the former Armenian police forces commander, is charged with exceeding his power in connection with the use of special equipment by law enforcers during the April mass protests. The Lieutenant General refuses to testify in the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, the police used special equipment against participants of a march organized by Nikol Pashinyan. There was a clash between law enforcers and supporters of the opposition, after which Nikol Pashinyan was detained together with some activists. On September 25, Lieutenant General Levon Yeranosyan, who commanded the police forces until this May, was summoned for questioning in the case.

On September 25, the Special Investigating Service (SIS) filed a charge against Levon Yeranosyan under Part 2 and Part 3 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (excess of official power with the use of violence, weapons, and special equipment), the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Tigran Safaryan, an advocate of Levon Yeranosyan.

"Levon Yeranosyan got acquainted with the investigators' decision, but refused to testify in the case," the advocate said.

According to him, Levon Yeranosyan was released under recognizance not to leave the place.
