Dagestan official complains to ECtHR about his detention

Rayudin Yusufov, a former Dagestani official, accused of fraud, has reported to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) that he was detained without observing the necessary formalities.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Rayudin Yusufov, a deputy of the former acting Premier of Dagestan Abdusamad Gamidov, as well as two other officials and Gamidov himself, are in custody in Moscow since February 6. The officials are accused of committing large-scale frauds.

Mr Yusufov has sent a complaint to the ECtHR; he believes that he had been detained without due grounds, the "Chernovik" has written today.

According to his complaint, law enforcers took him to Moscow without due procedural formalities, since he was detained 12 hours before receiving the status of a suspect in the case, the "Kommersant" reported on August 11.

The "Kommersant" specifies, referring to Dagir Khasavov, Yusufov's advocate, that, in the advocate's opinion, the Rayudin Yusufov's "undocumented deprivation of liberty" violates Article 5, Paragraph 1, of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
