Brother of the former Armenian Prime Minister detained

Investigators conducted searches at the mechanic-repair plant located in the village of Mkhchyan in the Ararat Region and found a lot of weapons. They have detained Ambik Gevorkyan, who is registered as the owner of the plant, and Genrikh Abramyan, the brother of former Prime Minister of Armenia Ovik Abramyan.

The searches were conducted within the framework of the inquiry into the case on the events of March 1-2, 2008, in Yerevan.

On July 26, 2018, Robert Kocharyan was accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in connection with the dispersal of protest actions on March 1-2, 2008.

As reported by the "Azatutyun Radio", the plant actually belongs to the former Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan. He was the Armenia's Premier from April 13, 2014, and resigned on September 8, 2016.

Ambik Gevorkyan and Genrikh Abramyan have been detained on suspicion of illegal acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition, the "News-Armenia" reports to the country's National Security Service (NSS).
